Take Your Site To The Next Level

If you have an ecommerce site.

I know hundreds of business owners with fantastic looking websites. But when I ask them, "So, how much money is your website bringing in to your business?" Their reply is often, "Well I get a hundred to three hundred visitors a day!" And they say it with smile from ear to ear. And then I ask the question in a different way, "How much money is it making you?" But a little louder in case they didn't hear me. This time the smile isn't as pronounced and they respond, almost as if they are confessing.

Which brings me to the question I have for you? "How much money is your website generating for you?" If your honest answer is nada, zilch, zero, you are not alone.

The fact is few if any websites, out of the millions out there are generating money. Why? The reason is most business owners have never been trained on Internet Marketing. Most business owners spend most of the day attending to the job that pays the bills. That primary job is 99% of the time not managing a website. It's not surprising. Millions of businesses have websites. Yet most of these business websites were built for functionality not Internet Marketing performance. These sites were built to show a presence, not to attract website surfers looking for information, products or services.

Is your website experiencing the same symptoms? Are your Internet Marketing results in the sandbox? If so, resucitate your website from it's near death experience. Wake it up from the coma. Inject life into it by finetuning it's internal engine yourself or allow someone to analyze it and give it a tune up.

What Is Internet Marketing?

Internet Marketing involves optimizing the internet mechanics of your website so it attracts people with the best performing content. Then external Internet Marketing is applied to enhance the public appeal of a website, with the goal of attracting the most and the best prospective visitors into your site, in order to convert visitors into clients or members. This last process is called conversion. Conversion success can take many forms. Your conversion success can be measured by making a sale, grabbing visitor information, registering members. Conversion is not soley website visits. They key to success is capturing something of value and changing a visitor into a client or associate. As a rule, the more quality information you can gather, the greater the value of that conversion.

Can You Do This Yourself?

Absolutely. It's very possible for you to learn how to optimize your site and then market your website in the internet world. Do you have time? If you do, here are some very good resources you should look into first, step by step.

FUSION QUEST

Outsource It

If you do not have time, you will need to outsource this work to someone. Keep in mind, that if you had a relative, friend or family member build your site and your right now considering Internet Marketing, that should be a huge red flag to you, not to hire your website designer for this work. You wouldn't be considering Internet Marketing if this had been done previously.

You need a SEO expert - Search Engine Optimization professional to do the work. Search Engine and Website Optimization is going to involve two primary areas again, internal and external finetuning. This work by the way, is labor intensive and depending on the problem, it can take hours, days or months to get the results you need. Going rates for professionals range from $200 to $800 an hour.

Financially, it is better to hire an SEO expert by the hour rather than by the project. The reason being, SEO takes strong research skills to spot both opportunities and challenges. In other words the unknown is what that SEO expert is going to be dealing with. Having a project with a budget can leave the website owner without a completed job because the consultant did not have enough time to do the best job. By paying the professional by the hour, they will do what is necessary and balance out the work in order to reach the expected goals.

An SEO expert can usually give you an estimate of time to expect and will give you a general idea of what areas they are going to cover. However, don't expect a detailed plan of every step they are going to take. They are not in the mentorship business. Do not expect them to show you how they do it.

What To Expect

Here is basically what you should be asking from the SEO expert, and what you should expect in return.

1. Provide a list of keywords you want your site to be found by. Make a preliminary list of 20 words. Expect 5 to 10 words to be achievable in some form.

2. Provide a list of products or services you want to be found by.

The consultant will work toward optimizing your website for 3, and perhaps only 2 keyword phrases per web page. Depending on your competitive industry it can be more or less. Therefore, do not expect your site to be found for all 20 keywords.

In addition, if your business is in a very competitive industry online, you may not be able to optimize your website for your preferred keywords. You may have to settle for a different variation of keyword phrases that targets your ideal audience for now. The best approach is to work from the bottom up. Least ideal to most ideal keywords. It's possible that you will need to hire the consultant over again to boost your site's performance over and over again as you move up the list of keywords.

ROI - Return On Your Investment

Expect to see results within a few weeks up to three months. Depending on how much competition there is for your list of keywords, it can even take less time, or perhaps more. Again your ROI can take the form or sales, leads or simply visitor contact information gathering. Which is the best? I'll be glad to tell you why. Just give me a call and we can talk about it.

Delays

The biggest delays with SEO projects is not having enough website content already within a website. If your website is lacking content information, you are going to have work to do. I recommend that you either hire out someone to develop it for you, such as a freelance writer, or you upload it to your website or email it to the SEO expert ahead of time. Your content has to be in copy and paste form. Don't expect the SEO to hand type your information.

Very importantly, your content MUST be relevant to the keywords you want your site to be found with. If it's not relevant, don't supply it.

Hand Over The Keys

Finally, you will need to provide the SEO consultant with access to your website. This means providing that person with your FTP login information and a password.

To protect yourself, I suggest that you create a second FTP and a second password, specially created for that person. This way, after the work is done you can disconnect that login access. In this method, you safeguard your login and password information.
